It's my understanding that by coating the muffler and exhaust header (not exchangers) heat will be trapped within the system -- not radiated out -- which is a good thing for our air-cooled bangers, and it has the added benefit of "preserving" the metal (the coated parts will last a lot longer). Now, if you coat the exchangers with the same material you've just reduced your heater output to God-awful! If this is what you did then I think you've made a mistake come winter, but if you had the exchangers coated with something else then you might want to clarify that point.
