It depends on the year: 64-9 get the spacers with the tall seals that 
have 8mm holes. 70-3 use no spacers with flat seals that have 10mm 
bores. They use different coolers.

OTOH, I suspect that Steve was referring to the lack of an adapter 
between the case and the cooler as is used in the 70- beetles. This 
is a cast aluminum piece.

BTW, did you know that very early type 3s used a right angle adapter 
with a type 1 cooler. I've never seen one, just the pictures in the 
parts drawings. Does anyone out there have one of these?

This is an old confusion and you're not the only one. There is no 
difference between the MT and the AT cam.
