I usually use whatever is cheap, but I quit buying from J C Whitney
when they sent me a batch of pads that actually were riveted to the
backing plates. When THOSE wear out they really make a mess of your
rotors! Not sure about T1 pads, some may be the same as the early T3
pads.

The really nice and expensive pads have the groove as well as the
extra layer of damping material on the back, however I have never
been able to tell any difference. I suspect that the groove is a
theoretical advantage that never really shows up, at least in street
use.
