OK I have the answer!!!

maybe.

About a hundred years ago my '63 beetle did the same thing...thought it was kinda' cool that it would accelerate itself uphills...

Anyway, the problem I found was the mounting holes on the nose mount of the tranny were elongated because they had loosened up ...the bottom one had broken through. So whenever the load on the rear changed..accelerate-decelerate, the whole drive train would kinda pivot at the axle. This cause the throttle cable to be pulled on at inopertune times.
While checking for this phenomenon , be careful when driving with your door open with your head under the car looking for movement :)

I got a salvaged nose piece and replaced it but you could probably get it welded.
Of course this may not really be your problem.
Good luck grasshopper.
