OK. These are the numbers I managed to get from the distributor I puloled that came with Inge. Bosch#: 0 231 137 009 VW : ??? 90? 205 K The VW numbers were literaly barely visible. The company that remanufactered this unit use some strong stuff. Here is an amendement to my earlier message "Top Dead Center": I looked carefully again this morning and realized that the slot in the distributor hole is oriented in the RR (SE to NW) position with the smaller lobe facing the driver's side of the engine. This does not seem to correlate with the Bentley but does with what Jim wrote in his reply. I went ahead an installed the type3 distributor with the rotor now aimed at SE for #1 TDC. This is 90 degrees from where the other distributor was and 180 degrees from what it should be if the Bentley is correct. The notch indicating #1now is now 90 dgrees to the left. What I ended up doing was removing the valve covers to confirm that #1 was in firing position and it was. Then I decided that since this is TDC for this engine as it now built I can live with it. I moved all the plug wires over one space counter-clockwise. It runs real nice. A little smoother than before. I need to make sure that it is running coMlhat this "shift" isn't going to affect the cooling.
