Actually, I think you mean just in front of #3 cyl; #4 is to the rear. 72-3 type 3s (only) have vented rocker boxes. This hole should have a steel tube pressed into it which connects to a red hose which wraps around the front of the engine and plugs onto one of the 2 pipes that sticks out of the right side of the air cleaner. The second pipe feeds air into an identical pipe at the rear of the right s¬óIú. Clean air comes through these hoses and into each rocker box, down the push rod tubes, through the case and is sucked out the breather. This is a kind of positive crankcase ventilation.
