Quick primer on VW machine work : Machining the heads is flycutting, this restores a good seal between heads and cylinders, and it raises the compression ratio, I have a table that gives cr by thousanths flycut. Another operation after this is to machine a step to lower the cr back down a bit, but this leaves a wierdness in the chamber shape, looks like the late bug heads only more The last is a 'hemicut' done with a radiused flycutter in the mill like the first 2, but leaving enough of an edge for a good seal . I brelieve Gene Berg did this before anyone else, and I have had luck in AZ fixing all the vws that go by this way.
