The Type1 heads on the Type3 engine is no problem, as I have them on my
Type3 engine as well. These heads have covered 150000 km on an original
Type1 1600 before my bro' had them flycut 1,5mm and installed new valves
and valveguides, in addition to porting and polishing. After that, he
drove 30000km on unleaded fuel before the Super('71) rusted away, at
which point I bought the car for parts. The heads have since covered
50000km, still on unleaded fuel.
The only two things you have to watch out for is A: the dowel peg that
some heads have, and other not! (either remove the peg, or modify the
manifolds, like my bro' did) B: If you have an injection engine, the
head is missing the hole for the cyl head temperature.
As you might understand, I have first hand experience with T1 heads on
the T3, it is NO problem at all.

Good lad. Just for the record, the spark should be a nice, healthy fat
blue.

i replaced the points and condenser. tested the coil, orange spark so i
pulled it off and it seems to be filled with liquid?????!?!?
put a coil on that I've had sitting around for a while and the spark is now
bright yellow, almost white, but not quite, I'll get a brand new one on
Monday. this one seems to have made things better. now it only backfires in
the mid rpm range. it'll get me back and forth to work tonight
