Keep in mind that what you have, if I remember correctly, is the 914 brain and PS with the 311 engine and venturi. This is not a matched set and I have no idea how it should be expected to work. Did you consider putting in a brain and PS that matched the displacement of your engine and the pressure drop of your air intake? I'm afraid that a set of good correct used parts would have set you back much less. > Anyway, so I put in the new sensor, remember the part numbers matched on > the old sensor and the new, > and it fires right up! runs extremely smooth on revving it up! It is still impossible to know whether this is due to mismatched parts or a defect in something. > I put in the old sensor and it fires up and runs smooth, but I now notice > not as smooth as the new one. But the old one has no prob idling or > anything, just poor mpg. This would seem to say that you do not have a defect in some other part of the FI system. Keep in mind that 23 mpg is just about right for a 71. When you "rebuilt" your old PS, did you adjust the adjusting screw? If so you may have "calibrated" it to the type 3 venturi, although it may not be posible to make that calibration correct at all engine loads. It may be correct at one point and an approximation at all others. > Im on the right path I sense it, but whats up? Interesting that it has that on the box but not on the part. My experience with this is that Bosch parts purchased through the VW (Porsche) network are dual marked; those purchased directly from Bosch have only the Bosch #.
