Actually this car has been advertised for at least a few month now. And I don't see any chance of selling it for that price. Anybody that really "restores" a car (VW anyway), especially if it includes customizing, must realize that he is doing it for himself only. Getting back your money when selling, is basicly impossible. This fall there was a 67 Ghia for sale here. It was in unrestored almost perfect condition, low miles, one owner, A/C, first paint, good chrom. Asking price was $7500. You could not even begin to restore a car for that. In Kansas City a NEW 77 Bug was for sale. 22 miles on the clock. A/C, new brakes and some new seals to compensate the ageing. Asking price was $12000. Same story. Both cars have a much larger fan base than the type III's. I am personelly looking for a perfect Squareback (old style though) and expect to pay not nearly as much. Sport seats, tinted windows, and other "contemporary upgrades" would actually make the car less desireable to me. Customizing means personelizing, refering to the person doing it, and nobody else. I have a "perfect" unrestored 72 Westfalia Bus, that I converted to a 79 California only FI engine and an Automatic transmission. I did this for myself, for fun and as a challenge. If I would try to sell the car, these mods would probably diminish the value to a collector. This as a warning to all you customisers on the "dark side" out there.
