I have an early to mid, (could someone verify that for me? vin # 366040111) '66 square that I bought from the original owner and it has no insignia on the rear decklid. I asked her if that was the way it came, or if she had it replŠG he said that it is the original one, and some early pictures she has of the car show this. I also have two owners manuals, one that came with the car, and a later '66 version. The earlier one has "VW1600" written in a newer style script on it's decklid, and the later one just has "VOLKSWAGEN". I wonder if VW hadn't quite figured out what the rear script was going to be on the U.S. export models at this time. I believe most, if not all Type 3's imported to the U.S. had the 1600 with dual carbs until F.I., which means there was no reason for the "S". I have also seen an "N" model as opposed to the "S" model too. I believe that is the stripped down version of the earlier models. This isn't all quite relevant to the mysterious decklid question originally asked, but thats just my $.03 . ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
