Hi all: This "broken back" disease must be contagious. My Square has recently developed another problem I can't figure out. Anybody experience this one? A few weeks ago, on occasion while accelerating away from a stoplight, (mild acceleration) I heard this "click, click, click" sound coming from what sounded like under the rear of the car. The faster you went, the faster the clicking noise became until about 30 mph, when it disappeared. I checked the auto trans fluid (AT Square) and the rear end oil, both were up to the correct levels and no burnt smell or appearance. Trans fluid was pinkish red and clear, rear end oil was translucent gray. Both of these fluids were changed about 3 months ago. AC/Delco Dexron III trans fluid and Penzoil 80-90W Gear Oil. This gear oil meets the MIL spec specified in the VW owners manual. The sound started to occur with greater frequency. I have noticed that the sound occurs only when the car is in gear and the gas pedal is pressed. If you are at 25, take foot off gas, noise goes away. If you are at 25 shift into neutral and then speed engine up, no noise. Put car in gear and speed up, you get noise. Last week, the "click, click, click" turned into a rather loud "Cla ¬. k Clack". I had a freind look at the car and while he drove it, I bounced around the back seat trying to hear where the noise is coming from, sounds like the rear wheel hub. Braking action is normal with no pulling, etc. Brakes were done last summer, btw. Now the noise is constant, and I put the car in the garage as I feel that continued driving would probably be harmful until the problem can be diagnosed. Any suggestions anybody? HAs anyone experienced this one?
