Be sure that the end of the crank is flat (square). The dowels have probably
raised the area around the holes when th3‡el was loose.  If the crank
has these raised areas and you install the flywheel w/o fixing it you'll be
in the same situation your in now.   I had a similar situation on an engine
I rebuilt.  The dowel hole for one of the main bearings was oblong and
therefore wouldn't hold the bearing tight in the saddle.  I drilled the hole
to a size that made the hole a circle again, drilled the hole in the back of
the bearing the same size, cut offf a pice of drill bit that size and it
worked like a charm.  No new case needed!   Good luck,  Dave
