[T3] Carpet set install etc.

T3,

I am finally getting to the point of putting the TMI carpet set into my
Square. Now that I have welded up the rot around the heater vents and bead
blasted out the surface rust from the pan. Looks like I will have to
replace another heater channel in the future. What a hassle rust is.

I am just wondering if anyone else has does this carpet install job before.
I took out the carpet from the box and looked at how the pieces match up -
of course they don't, there are no holes for the heater vents on the rear
bench kick panel, the heater channel pieces are too short (I could go on
and on). It looks like I will&½ start glueing on one end and then
stretch the rest into position before adhering. Fun stuff.

I also noticed that the plastic seat rail guides on one side are split now
that the seats are out. Can the seat be re-installed eventhough the
plastic is cracked? They do still hold in position on the rail.

What else? Oh, I noticed where my last water leak was from - this might
help someone else tracing water on the front floor.

I still had the original seat back safety system - the wire which runs
under each seat to a small spring set up at the bottom of the door jam
(wrong word perhaps) below the lower door hinge. I guess this kept the
seat back from moving if the door was closed. Anyway, water was leaking
down from the front fender, past the hinges and getting into the cabin
through a hole where this spring thingie was attached to the door jam.
Since I removed this interesting safety feature (the wire was broken), I
decided to weld up the fingernail sized holes from the inside and squirted
the other side with sealant.

No more leaks from there. My last remaining leak is actually from around
each windshield wiper arm - where they go through the body of the car. I
am not sure how I will ever get at that. Total disassembly of the under
dash area I suppose. Yikes.

Thanks for any guidance with the carpets. My weekend plans are set now ...

Patrick
