well folks today i had some time to do some much needed work on my car. i now have a new addition to my engine, a nice yellow injector!! alright!! anyway i pulled the new injector off a later model type III engine sitting at the local beetle mechanic's house. it was just like my old injector except for the connection at the injector. this one had some factory fitted connection, whereas the ones in my car are just hose/clamp connections. i had to use a hacksaw to cut the darn thing off cause the hose was shot. it took me a few hours, yes a few hours, to get my injectors in and working. those gaskets and clamps and everything were a pain but i finally got it in with no leaks!! the next step in my day was to attend to the other problem my car was having. mainly not idling after the engine is warmed, surging/bucking when the gas is on. well of course i jumped to conclusions and assumed the worse. guess what it was? my points!! i started from the bottom up, checking all the little stuff. hooked my dwell meter up, started up, way off!! i popped the distributor cap off and noticed that the points were so tight that they never opened. a little readjustment a what do you know, my car runs great!! after that i also readjusted the idle, the throttle valve, and my timing. everything is just fine now, and me and my square are both very happy. now one question i have is this: why do my points come out of adjustment so much? i swear everytime my car starts to run crappy its the points. and today i noticed that the lobes on the distributor shaft and the nylon rider on the points were brown and a little crispy, as if they were burning/chaffing/something?? i should have sprung for bosch points...instead i bought generic ones...maybe this week i'll pick up some bosch. mark. 70 square fi. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
