It is also possible that it is running way too rich (and/or not 
getting warmed up properly--is your thermostat working properly?) and 
the extra volume is just gas mixed in with the oil.

It is VERY important that you determine exactly WHAT is leaking, 
since there are 3 possible fluids: motor oil, ATF, and gear oil.

There is a cover over the governor above and forward of the left 
output shaft on the AT which is sealed with an O-ring that always 
needs replacing. This will leak red ATF all over the left side of 
things back there.

The output shaft seals can leak gear oil. This smells sulfury. This 
oil level can only be checked from below, and if the gear oil runs 
dry you'll never know it until AFTER your tranny is destroyed.

The engine can leak motor oil any number of places, and for any 
number of reasons.
