Check out my website (http://members.aol.com/jaransonT3/heat.html ) for an illustration of what I am GOING to do to my heating system. I have not completed this yet, but it should have a significant impact on the heater performance. It is not dependent on engine RPM and it is recirculating. Never have been able to understand why VW always only heated outside cold air for the cabin heat. This wass not very effective where I grew up in northern MN. The outside air could be -20F and passing it through the heat exchangers for a second or two did not do much. I am gowing to re-route the heater lines done a custom center console, but this modification could work with the stock routing too. One note, I show the blower under the dash in the illustration. This is NOT a great location since it will also suck cabin air into the rear vents, rather than blowing air out of them. I will actually relocate the blower under the rear seat or in the rear trunk. The blower should be between the recirculation opening under the seat and the first warm air opening into the cabin. It could be before or after the heat exchangers. Before might be better since the blower would not have to move the really hot air coming off of the heat exchangers. I just have not gotten around to changing the illustration. Let me know what you all think of the idea.
