You probably see the wetness after you shut down the engine. At this 
time the gas in leaking OUT. While you're running there should be a 
vacuum there which will pull air in. 

There's no way that you can expect these shafts to seal, but 
excessive wear can make control and mixture problems. I think, in 
general this leads to leanness.

It sounds like you have the right idea, but I don't know what the 
bushings should be made of. I would go for brass if I had the choice, 
because they would have the same thermal expansion as the casting 
(or is the throttle body steel?).

RIMCO charges $30 @ for this service. Call them at 800-331-4775 and 
let us know what kind of bushings they use. Perhaps they'll just sell 
you bushings.
