I am installing rear disks on my '68 fastback...the donor parts came from a 914 Porsche...but before I do this swap I am converting to irs...this irs conversion will be much different than most...rather than swap the whole subframe, I'm going to weld in irs pivots and retain the rear horn section...swap out rear torsion arms and springs....much like the bugs rear set-up...I had done a simulare swap with my '60 bus, installed all factory rear parts off a '72 and ran a Thing tranny...the bus cruised at 70mph. I will try to get a web page going to share the tech info for you readers out there interested in improving ride and handling as well as stopping power for you type three nuts...first I need to get a digital camera to install the pictures so you can see the mods on-line. I will be doing five mods to my FB...the first is IRS conversion, 2nd rear disk brakes, 3rd power pooster install and a bias valve to adjust the pressure between the front and rear, 4th will be the installation of my highly modified 1.7L Rabbit motor with a Kennedy adapter, and last but not forgotten will be a A/C install..of course the A/C won't be installed 'till the car is on the road, my Goal is by mid summer...it may not be painted by than, but it will be the altimate FB is California!
