This sounPać like too much spark advance. => (check advance with a timing light) How is this accomplished? It's easiest using a light with an advance dial. Reconnect the vacuum, rev the engine to full advance, adjust the advance dial to line up the timing mark at TDC, and read the advance off the meter. With a fixed light, you have to use a protractor to make a 30-degree mark on your pulley, then read it with the light at full advance to determine how close you're coming to the mark. Alternatively, you could experiment with retarding the timing by a few degrees and retesting until you find the right balance between idle and ping.
