The right lever turns ALL heat on or off. Up is on.
The left lever controls the heat vents in the rear seat kick panels.
Up is on.
The knobs on the side panels under each end of the dash control the
heat out of the footwell openings.
Closing any heater opening increases the heat available at the other
openings.

Open the left door and pull the lever that you find next to the fixed
door latch; that opens the rear lid. The engine is under another
cover on the floor of that compartment; its latches should be
obvious.

Strange that you would have these reevnÆ 71. They were not
introduced until late 72. Are you sure this is a 71? The third digit
of the VIN is the year.
