Wow, I can't believe it, I actually have an answer for this one. I had this same problem with my '67 Square. What happened with mine is that at one of the hinge joints the hinge had actually started cutting into the bolt. As the thing progressed, the hole in the hinge got larger and the bolt was just about cut clean through. I thought the replacement was going to be a bear, but turned out not to be that bad. The hardest part is figuring out the spring bars up in the ceiling so the hinge can be removed. I know this is a few days late, so if the lubricating worked, great. If not, I'll continue with the tale if anyone needs the info.
