For the record, as taught by my equally anal 'I-built-radios-in-the-fifties'
father; I clean the wires to be spliced; braid them together; solder the
joint with a tiny but sufficient amount of solder; screw a wire connector
securely in place, and then shrink wrap the entire affair for insulation.
