You can usually find an adapter to mount 2 3 inch speakers in a 4 x 10
in speaker hole at most car stereo stores, but I have never seen one for
the 4 x 6 in speakers.

Inovations in fiberglass makes fiberglass kick panels for mounting up to
a 7 inch speaker in each panel. I have these in my beetle and am going
to order a set for our Notch. They produce a good stereo image without
taking away from the originality of the car. You can cover them with
carpet and it's hard to tell that they are even there without looking
for them. Be careful if you are thinking of mounting an amp and sub
woofer as the stock generator only puts out a max of 30 amps and most of
that is used to run the rest of the electrical system in the car with
little left over.
