Go under the car and remove the three bolts that connect the drive plate to the torque converter. Then pull the engine and tranny out together. Separate the two when they are out and on the ground. When you install the new AT you must make sure that the splines for the torque converter and the drive shaft for the ATF pump are fully engaged. I believe this is correct when the torque converter slides into the bell housing far enough that the end of the protrusion in its rear center is flush with the face of the bell housing. There is a good cross sectional view in the Bentley manual that shows this. If that center nub protrudes a bit then the splines are not fully engaged. You will need to push and twist a bit until the torque converter goes fully into place. If you try to skip this step, you may be in for an awful fight before it engages properly. Voice of experience, been there, done that;-( After that just reverse the removal process. Make sure that you have topped up BOTH the ATF (Dexron) and the final drive (GL-5) before you start the engine and try to drive it.
