The double vac units are similar for carb and inj. T3s, but do have different part numbers, so are not identical. The timing according to VW is done quite differently for carb and injection for the twin vac units. The carb has hoses on, and is timed to 0 deg, while the inj. has hoses removed (and idle reset) then timed at 5BTDC. I don't know why VW choose to do it differently (apart from making something more complicated than needed, which they are good at doing. ;-) ) The different markings used on the flywheels makes me wary of going against the factory procedure, though. Thanks for explaining the exact role of the small bore vac chamber; I hadn't considered the influence of the venturi produced by the narrow throttle opening. This explains the extra advance (up to 40 deg total) observed by owners checking for the maximum 30 to 32 deg advance recommended for setting up an 009 (no good for inj. anyway). Dave.
