Hello Rob,

I would not value it very high because it is probably a fake.

I would suspect a body swap on your car or a RHD conversion.  According to
my records RHD Type-3s did not appear until 1964. I would seriously doubt
it is a 1961.

Don't hold me as the all powerful reference, but I would go into
negotiations with this in mind. Get an experienced body person (hopefully
VW experience) to look at the body work to see if he can see a conversion
and double check the body and chassis numbers. See if the chassis number on
the tunnel has been cut and rewelded into place.

I'm not saying to NOT buy it, just don't believe it to be an ORIGINAL 1961 RHD.

Sounds like a cool car anyway. I wouldn't mind having it.
