Is it possibly possible that your floats are sticking, so that first they fill up and the needle shut off valve sticks, then as you (try) to step on the gas-there ain't none? Kind of odd that they would *both* be dry, and for both the needles to stick, maybe a tank of old gas did you in. I don't know if you have Solex, Weber or whatever, but I think that Haynes has a section on adjusting the float height on Solexes, might be another tact to follow. Just a thought.
