My notes say 87 inches required.  I think I had mine made up an inch 
longer.  You might be able to save yourself some trouble and buy a 
short metric line and a coupler and replace yours in two pieces.

I'm not sure, but I don't think VW ever changed the size of this 
thread.  At least all the late (68-) cars use M10x1 fittings.  Since 
you're in Europe this should make a metric bubble flare coupler 
easier to find if you want to go that route.
