I've never actually seen one in place, but isn't there also supposed to
be a seal of some sort between the front tin and the body? I have the
front tin and my engine still gets a lot dustier than I'd like.

Ow, that's gotta hurt! Have you considered just letting them swing and
concentrating on your hose angle?
