I agree that there is no point in upping just the cold oil pressure, and I also agree that when hot, the bypass valve (with the stronger spring) will be (more) closed and the pressure will be higher. But I think the important thing to understand that that this higher pressure comes at the price of less flow through the cooler, hence higher oil temp.
