Mark, no need to prolong the agony by buying a Type 1 first.  Go for
the Type 3 from the start.  It's a much better car, but get a good
one from the start if you can as the parts are generally more
difficult to get than Type 1 parts.  I don't think there is anything
you can't get for the more recent Type 3s.
