It's very dangerous to run and drive the car as it is. But your are half right in your solution. I had the exact same problem. Here what a carb guy did for me for nothing. First, remove the carb and remove the fitting. Then remove all fuel from the carb. Then, clena the fitting of any fuel with a solvent. Clean the inlet also. Now go and get some Loctite, the red stuff should be goos enough. Put some loctite around the fitting and place it in the the inlet on the carb and gently but firmly hammer the fitting. A brass hammer is what my crab guy used but I think the point is not to get crazy whacking it. Once it's on there tight let it set for 24 hours.
