I want to start this off by thanking the guy who told us about the 1971 squareback at Ecology Auto Wrecking in Wilmington. We went over there on Saturday, and while the front clip, fenders, and hood were too rusty or dented for use in fixing our squareback, we did manage to find a TON of small parts that we need or thought others could use. We scored perfect white sun-visors for next to nothing, and what seems to be a working speedo to replace the one in the notchback. Is there any way short of putting the speedo in the car to see if everything works on it? We also got a nice set of tail light lenses and housings, rocker chrome, some side chrome, and lots of other little things. Most of the glass is still there, complete with the rubber and chrome inserts in pretty good shape. The automatic tranny is still there too. Today we went down to Huntington Beach for a bus show, but still managed to find type 3 stuff. We made up a little sign to put in the window of the notchback saying "wanted: parts to fix our 1971 squareback" and had several people talk to us about what they had. There is a guy in San Diego with what he says is a "backyard full" of early type 3 stuff...I'm not sure what he all has, but I have a phone number and if you're interested I can call and get more info. We also found a guy with all the parts we need to put the squareback back together. He'll even cut off the front clip for us :) Oh!! We also managed to get a CLEAN set of Hella foglights for the whopping price of $30. We left the show happy needless to say. Any info on how to tell if a speedo/odometer is good is appreciated, and let me know if you'd like me to contact the guy in San Diego. Thanks!!
