Re: [T3] Flogging a dead bead

Well, the very best thing to do is have the fenders and doors off the
car and sprayed separately, this is how I did it(windows removed,
too). You then have no problems with getting beading stuck to the
surface, masking, etc, and can get the back sides painted where the
rust will start. You almost have to do this yourself, probably
would cost a fortune to tie up a spray booth at a commercial shop to
do it.

There's some seams under the rear fenders around the air intakes that
really need to be cleaned and recaulked, too. The OEM caulk turns hard
and brittle, leaves gaps for rust to form in. Can only get to the
area with the rear fenders off, I did it at the same time as the paint
job.

There exists a paint additive(which I haven't used yet) which can be
used to plasticize auto finishes for use on rubber and plastic body
parts like the bumpers and air dams on current model cars. This
should work fine on the beading, auto body supply stores carry it.
About $40/quart, but treats a lot of paint.

In my opinion, the T1 round beading doesn't look too good, I've got it
on my beast right now, will be replacing it come warmer weather.
Didn't have much of a choice at the time, though, but it was cheap.
It ripples in hot weather, gets loose in cold.

Black beading with white fenders would look OK, not stock, though.
Depends on what look you want. Only you can decide.
