Sorry, none left to sell. Put your car in N; if the idle peoblem is still there, then it has nothing to do with the AT. A dirty air distributor is normal, and a certain amount of oil in the line to the VM is also normal; this is condensation of vapors from the air distributor. If there is a lot of gunk in there, wash it out, or replace the hose. The VM is only a suspect if you consistently get obviously red ATF running out when you pull the hose off the VM. > i do remember the > discussion that the vm needs adjustment. now, does it need adjustment in > order that the shifts take place at the correct speeds and if i just slap > it in as it is, it won't be a huge problem and i can adjust it by trial > and error? It will need to be adjusted. While the best way is by the book, you may be able to get by on trial and error. If it is adjusted wrong, both upshifts and downshifts will be wrong, and this can be hard on the tranny. One of the main symptoms of a bad VW is that the car doesn't want to downshift as you come to a stop; the car just keeps pulling and you have to FORCE it to a stop with the brakes. Once stopped, there will be a rather large KLUNK as the AT finally agrees to downshift. The other symptom is lots of red ATF coming out of the hose when you disconnect it. Signs of a misadjusted VM are shifting at too high or too low a speed. Slow shifts with lots of slipping are sometimes due to a worn out ATF pump, but could be caused by a clogged ATF filter screen.
