we're in the exact same position as you. Our 73 Square was crashed hard up front and sounds like it sustained similar damage. Check out Katie's Squareback Situation (http://members.aol.com/toastedt3/index.html) for details. We tried every trick in the book to get the insurance company to not total the car and fix it for us. It didnt happen. The car was valued at approximately $4000 and the Ins Co said they'd fix it if the repairs didnt total more than 80% of the value of the car ($3200). Even with being on a forst hand basis with the owner of the shop and all the employees we wanted the repairs done at, it wasnt possible to get the total repair bill down under the $3200 budget we had. We bought the car back for $400 and it now has a Salvaged title. To repair our car we need a new front clip (we're gonna cut about halfway down the gas tank) a driver's side front fender a driver's door and a hood. We also need all the goodies that go with the fender and the door like molding and rocker trim and stuff like that. It sounds like we both need the same thing. We had our car put on the frame puller and straightened a bit because our driver's door didnt fit right after the crash . SOunds like you should check into this too. It's a tough call as to weather that $3500 price is fair. In my opinion it isnt becasue I'd rather do as much of the work as possible and just have someone weld us on a new front clip. the price we were quoted to fix our car was about the same $3500 that you were quoted. The difference here is that we didnt have a clip for them to use and we didnt have all the replacement parts like you do. If we did, there's no way $3500 would be a fair price. Keep in mind that we have a late model and yours is early. BIg difference in the price of parts there. I still think $3500 is a bit high for you, but maybe you can work with the repair shop a bit to make things easier on you. maybe you can do some of the re-assembly (electrical, fender, hood...ect). Have them put the cost of repainting towards other things and then get it painted at a later date. This will bring the cost down because it's reducing their labor which is the biggest part of the reapir. While parts for early SB's can be expensive, they arent what's causing this price to be so high. I hope I've been of some help. Sorry I cant recommend a shop up in Santa Clara. I'm still looking for a good one down here in the South Bay (torrance area). Good luck on dealing with the Inc Co and finding a good repair shop.
