[T3] More regarding my Squareback's front-end problems...

As some of you might know, my '69 Squareback has front-end damage from a
previous accident, and I'm now trying to find a good body shop in the Santa
Clara County area to do the repair work -- and a VW shop would be a great
find! Only a VW owner can do a job another VW owner would be proud of.

My question is this: Is $3500 anywhere near a sane or acceptable quote for
the actual cost to repair the front right fender (I have a replacement), the
hood (have this too), the front nose panel/clip, and the luggage
compartment? The damage is mostly on the right (passenger) side, extending
up into the luggage compartment & trapping the spare between the front nose
panel & the luggage compartment front rail, which is kinked about 3" from
its normal position. I believe there may be some body stress transferred
through the right side of the car, as the passenger window is now a little
harder to roll up & down. If the parts are what is putting the cost up so
high, that's less of a problem as I can find the parts some way. My
insurance company is going to cover the damage some way, but if the cost to
repair is too high, they'll just try to total it. I would of course try to
avoid this, and even if I could not avoid a salvaged title, would still keep
the car registered while I get the work done one way or another. The whole
story is a bit depressing, so I'll skip it. For the time being, I really
need to find a shop to do the body work & paint before my insurance claim
expires.

Thanks for all the help again, guys!
