4-pot, as Dave was using it actually refers to the number of pistons in a single wheel's brake system. We have 2-pot calipers, mostly. Most American and many import cars use one, and a sliding bridge. My Volvo 122 has three (!!!) and the 2002 has 4. It really doesn't make too much difference in stopping, technically, as 'swept area', 'pad area' adn pad pressure really determine braking ability. However, after going thru the 2002's 8 pots, (and TINY little rotors and pads!) I hate 'em. It took a whole day... But racers use 4-pots (with MUCH bigger pistons) to good effect. Don't I just know it all tonight? <grin> Toby B ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
