If my memory serves me, there is some sheet metal behind the seat back, at least in my Fasty. I don't recall if it was a solid sheet or just a stamped x-brace. This is called the rear seat strainer, in auto body engineering lingo, and it adds substanially (like 20+%) to the torsional (twisting) stiffness of the body structure. If it exists, cutting it out to allow a pass thru with the fold down rear seat could effect the body structure. One could add additional stiffeners to the body to compensate. It might not be as big a deal with our T3's since the pan is designed to carry so much of the load, but most of its job is bending. I suspect that the body still contributes substantially to the torsional stiffness. Still, the idea has merit, I might just have to try it on my Fasty....
