SV: SV: SV: [T3] external oil filter idea!

Fellow T3 enthusiasts!
(especially Toby and Jim, which had to take most of the fat shit I«ve been
talking...)

All right, allright (groan) - I confess: I«m a babbeling dumbass, that
talks a lot whitout really having a grip on the subject.
Especially, as it seems, in this weeks oil filter discussion. Serious memory
loss is my only defence and excuse. Maybe I need a shrink...? At least my
wife think so, regarding to my VW fascination!

OK - Here«s the background story to my mistake:
Back in -88 I was busy assembling a customized -59 bug ( screaming yellow
paint, 3 inch roof chop, 1-piece windows, dropped front susp, etc) and
needed a fresh engine. Stumbeled over a factory exchange engine that was
almost new from the shelf. It had been in the back of a -72 Fastback that
had rusted up totally. This "goldnugget" I stripped down and converted into
a T1 upright engine! I also put the tranny and the brakes from the Fasty
into the bug.
(Hey! Stop throwing tomatoes...I hadn«t yet seen the light, and didn«t know
what a sin I commited...)

On a late T1 engine , the oil cooler is mounted on a adapter onto the
crankcase. It was this gizmo that tricked my mermory.

I was SO SURE, as I tried to remember the construction of things during our
discussion last week, that the oil cooler on a T3 was attached to the
crankcase in the same manner as above, with a adapter in between. There, in
my imagination, I saw the possibility to connect a filter.
Last night, howewer, after driving my latest love home (the -73 square I
mentioned before) and parked it safely in my garage, I grabbed a torchlight
and crawled into the darkness under the rear trunk floor ...

-Oh shit! Hey Guys, seems that I was mistaken - there is no such adapter
that I was talking about! *blushing*...
The cooler is bolted right onto the case! No wonder we had a hard time to
understand each other! *blushing to my knees*

- Am I a Jerk, or what!! Sheesh... *maroon red all over...*

OK, now when I have officially embarrased my self , crawled in the gravel,
appologied to all you readers of this list and revealed what a jackass I am,
I still must hold out that I«m just as found of old VW«s as any of you, and
I«m deeply in love with my squareback....and I had good intentions with my
suggestion! Just trying my best.

Can i still play with you? I promise that I will try to not mess things up
again.. ;-) ( but no guarantee...)

Thanks again for putting up with me! (and with my endless long
letters....)

See you out there! I would really like to get in contact with T3 freaks in
Scandinavia , too.

P.S.
Drove the "Green Lady" to work today. Great fun - as everyone«s staring as
if they seen a UFO!
And driving her on snow with a heavy gasfoot beats every rollercoaster in
the world... ;-)
