The torque converters on early 68-9 ATs had poor cooling and suffered from this. This was fixed by a TC with more cooling fins. I enjoy the control that driving a MT gives me over what the engine is doing, plus there is a bit more fuel efficiency with the MT. Both are hard for the average person to work on, and both require special tools to get in and to reassemble correctly. Most shops won't touch either. I have successfully rebuilt one MT, but have yet to tackle an AT.
