Fascinating adventure, Toby. The instrument blanking insert is normal in lower spec UK Type 3s, like my 1600A Variant (Squareback). I even have an NOS one in a box. I find a clock more useful, though! The red needle dials were fitted early on, but spares book only specifies one part number for each pre-67 instrument (6-volt), so I suspect all 6-volt units are similar. They are not very common here; I have a 6-volt clock with red hands to go with your reserved instruments for a 6-volt look. Dave.
