I would be leary about your VWGuru if he really said the fuel
pressure sensors went bad on the FI.  I'm no FI expert, but I
just printed out the D-Jetronics manual and there is no such
thing as a fuel pressure sensor for the D-Jet, let alone two of
them.....I'm sure Jim or Keith can confim this.

There is a Manifold Pressure Sensor and a Fuel Pressure
Regulator, but no Fuel Pressure Sensor.  I would ask for more
information from the VWGuru.  You might also check out:

There is a good manual in there, about the D-jet and L-jet FI
systems. Print and carefully read.  You might even bring it with
you when you go back to the VWGuru.

Get informed about your FI system.  You might save yourself some
headache and $$$$.

Don't know about the scored piston, but would be curious to know
how it was diagnosed.  Did the VWGuru do a compression check or
did he tear down the engine already? (did not sound like the
latter had happened yet)
