The slip-in 87 have the known problem of too little metal left in the cylinder wall. This leads to distortion of the wall with heat, and loss of ring sealing. I didn't know that 88s were ever made as slip ins, but they should be even worse. A properly conceived and built engine will not have any overheating problems. Anyone who has overheating problems should be asking why, and what have I done wrong.
