Hey, now! My 71 is a good little tank! 8^) Secondly, I have been told that starting in the early 70's to just about 1980, as a cost-cutting effort (flagging sales because of rapidly disheartening air-cooled buyers 8^) ), European car makers began buying cheaper grade steel; 'seconds,' if you will. That may or may not be accurate, but when I lived in NJ, the number of rusted out Rabbits and Dashers was stunning ( corrosion to the point of fixed rear windows coming undone); and Beetles (as that's the only thing I saw) were almost always intact. Any truth to the lower grade steel thing? -----Original Message----- From: RJ Latherow [SMTP:RJLATHEROW@atlantic1.com] Sent: Thursday, November 12, 1998 8:12 AM To: 'Jim Adney'; type3@vwtype3.org Subject: RE: [T3] Gauging metal/thinkness I noticed that idfference between my 66 and my 71- the 66 was like a tank, and the 71 like rusty aluminum foil. -rj > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim Adney [SMTP:jadney@vwtype3.org] > Sent: Wednesday, November 11, 1998 6:12 PM > To: type3@vwtype3.org > Subject: Re: [T3] Gauging metal > > As an aside, has anyone else noticed that the 73s used thinner metal > than the earlier ones?
