RE: [T3] Easy-Off

I just got a nifty thing, an Engine Cleaning Wand for about $11 at Wally world. It works with my air compressor. I mix a solution of soap, water and kerosene and it works well for blasting the motor clean. Maybe a bit of a job for a totally crusty motor, but I clean as a part of regular maintenance. I'm a bit wary of easy off on a magnesium case. I've read and been told that there's some sort of protective coating that comes from the factory on the case to prevent corrosion, and Easy Off can leech that away. I was going to the car wash, but at $2+ a trip, I decided the wand was a good investment.

I was so involved in my last post, I forgot to ask a question. What does
everyone recommend to clean an engine with? I talked to a guy who said he
worked for a car auction place, and they used Easy-Off oven cleaner. I am
a bit sceptical about this. I've used various car products including Gunk,
but they don't work very well on that thick stuff. Even after most of it
has been scraped off.
