Hi everyone, I am 23 and just purchased my 4th VW (third air-cooled, 2nd Type 3). My first III was a motorless, automatic '72 squareback which I decided to "frankenstein" it by putting a '70 standard 1600 that I had from the Bug that I wrecked. Disaster. Sold it on Halloween 98 and that very day I saw another in a small car lot. So, a week after Halloween, I bought a standard '72 squareback (complete with engine) and I named her "OMEN"! It ran well at the time of purchase and I even had my trusted VW mechanic check it out, so I bought for $1200. Now it's a week later and for some reason, the engine constantly stalls out as if it ran out of gas. After checking my "VW for idiots" book, I'm thinking its the fuel injection. I wanted to replace the FI with a carborated system later, but it looks like should go ahead with it now. Here's where you guys come in... My dad raised me to believe that cars should only be worked on by mechanics. As I grew up, I realized that car's (VW's especially) can not only be worked on but are actually fun to work on. So there, dad! The problem now is that I have virtually no real hands-on experience and I don't want to run to my mechanic every time something goes wrong and I really don't want to mess this one up! Now that you know a little about me, how difficult is it to replace the fuel system for my baby. Donovan Rogers ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
