Well, I've finally done it. Hours and hours and copious notes describing every 1/4 turn of every idle air or idle speed screw later, I have finally synced my carburetors to my satisfaction, and I think I'm quite close to the proper mixture (a little on the lean side, minor minor backfire, more like a low-frequency putter in decel in 2nd, but further adjustments will wait until I get my odometer fixed and find out what's really going on - which will be soon, before I blow a hole in #3). The car has never run better. For the record, Weber says tht the initial starting point for the idle speed screws should be 1 turn in from contact w/the throttle lever, but that's not even possible without taking the idle airs out what I considfer way too far. Better staring point is 2-1/2 turns out with the idle air screws, 2 -5/8 turns in with the idle air screws, which gave me a linkage off rpm of 800, and the narrowest band I could find between the extremes of running too rich or too lean with the .... Ahhh, what the hell do you care anyway. You don't need to read this, You all have FI. And those that don't seem to be relatively satisfied. You taught me, after all. Anyway. I have done it. NATHAN JACOBSEN WINS BIG for the explanation and reassurance that both linkages should come off both carbs. Ah yes, because when all was said and done, both needed serious adjustment. And re; Toby's calling my attention to the existence of a Haynes Weber carb manual; thank you. Unfortunately the ICT-34 is NOT covered in this otherwise very handy looking book for those who have carbs described in it. I did manage to learn that the proper A/F mixture should be 12.5 - 16:1, with optimum at 15:1, but without anyway to measure this, I was left resorting to the very subjective instructions provided by Weber. They do have a very nice A/F curve graph in the Haynes book though, which I visualized while playing with the mixture. Now idling at 875 rpm, dwell 47-48 degrees, timing just under 3 BTDC (yes, BTDC) at idle, 10W-40 in the sump, valves set to .006", carbs synced. And no problems so far. Just need to spend 8-10 hours now trying to get my speedometer out of my dash. Thank you all for your help during this long long learning process which is nowhere near ending. But so far, as I said. D™rka is running better than ever. For the sake of the archive, I'm going to post my own version of the procedure at some point when I have the time. PS. Even with the 10W-40, it still doesn't like warming up all that much. Gotta get those air control flaps working. I think they've been fixed open. I cant believe I used to have straight 30 in there in the dead of winter.
