The computer is inside the LR fender.  You get to it by removing the 
vinyl panel just inside.  Used ECUs are easy to come by; you need a 
71, or "D" brain.  I have several.  How many do you need?

Not really, you may be able to tell if it is really bad, but if it 
seems to work, it may still pop out of gear under load.
